4.3.1 Types of Debentures:

Registered debentures: Registered debentures are registered with the company. Debenture interest is paid only to that person whose name is registered in the register of the company.

Bearer debentures: Bearer debentures are not recorded in the register of a company. Bearer debentures are transferable. The holders of these debentures are eligible to get the interest.

Secured debentures: Secured debentures are secured by a charge on the company’s asset. It gives the holders a right to recover principal amount with any unpaid interest out of the assets mortgaged by the company.

Unsecured debentures: These types of debenture holders don’t have any charge on the company’s assets; they have no claim on company’s asset.

Redeemable debentures: Redeemable debentures are issued for a fixed period. On the expiry of the fixed period, the debentures holders are paid the principal amount.
